Spryfield is a large Halifax community on the Mainland South, bounded by Armdale to the north, Long Lake to the south and Purcell's Cove Road to the east. It was named after Captain William Spry, who settled the land around 1769, and it was largely rural until postwar subdivisions such as Leiblin Park and Thornhill Park were built from the mid-1950s. It joined the City of Halifax in 1969 and is known for its lakes, trails and the Captain William Spry Community Centre.
