Quinpool Road is generally considered its heart, with a long run of small shops, restaurants and services from the Armdale Rotary to Robie Street. The area also includes the Westmount subdivision and the Halifax Shopping Centre on Mumford Road.

Homes in West End

For about 150 years the area was mostly small farms and country estates, and residential streets were laid out from the 1870s as streetcar lines arrived. After the Second World War, open land filled with blocks of Victory Houses and 1950s homes, including the Westmount subdivision of 305 detached homes built on the former airport from 1948.
